Hey guys, first post on Oppo. What are your thoughts on this 135i with a 1M conversion kit. I’m really not sure if its: (a) 1M at 135i price! or (2) a total poser move.

Id have to see it without the wrap. The matte black hides all the body lines and looks a bit cheap.

Poser.
Just make the 135 look more aggressive as it is. It’s a good looking car without trying to make it fool everyone into thinking it’s something it isn’t.

I think I agree. You either have to lie about it or go around explaining to everyone that it’s not a real 1M which seems like a pain.

The posting sums it up: “Get the 1M look for a fraction of the price.” It has a tune and exhaust but otherwise lacks any of the suspension, brake, or driveline improvements from the 1M. But give it decent shocks, springs, swaybars + 1M/M3 front control arms, upgraded rear subframe bushings & rear shock mounts, and an LSD, then hey, it’d be a pretty nice car.

I could understand if it was a Camaro Yenko re-creation or some other vintage car, but this just doesn’t work for newer cars imo. I do like the wheels, but don’t make a BMW something it isn’t.

Poser because Valencia Orange 1 Series M Coupe>Any other 1 Series minus a Le Mans Blue 135is.
I could never buy one because even though you could probably fool some people, I would be reminded that it isn’t really a 1 Series M every time I get in.

Why pay to be a poser when you can add the next best thing?

I think there is value in it if you do it right and upgrade it to equivalency or where it is a better performing car.
With my E36, I think if I upgrade it with E46 330i or M3 underpinnings along with either a turbo or S54, I would feel comfortable giving it some of the aesthetic bits (twisty side skirts & M front/rear bumpers) but none of the badging or go with esoteric badging that aligns with trims available in other parts of the world (clubsport).

If it’s not WBS, I must protest.

I am not a fan of cars pretending to be fancier versions of themselves. It’s cool to drive a 135i. It’s a fun car! Be happy with it! Don’t pretend that it’s something that it isn’t.

Not long ago I was on the highway behind a dressed up 128 with M badges. In front of him was an M5. Traffic was tight so there was nowhere for him to go. So there he was, stuck between two real M cars, for miles. He was sitting so low in his seat I don’t know how he could see. Don’t be that guy.

Stupid comments ... they don’t do it for the “1m “ look... it’s done for wider wheels and better parts ... we are restricted to 225/235 up front . With his swap you can fit a 275... definitely worth it if you track or do anything besides drive to the grocery store .
